who we are
THE NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION COUNCIL (NCPC) is a volunteer organisation whose members are appointed by the Minister for Home Affairs. Its objective is to work in partnership with the police and community to keep Singapore safe and secure through crime prevention.
The “Crime Prevention Ambassador”project aims to recruit and train senior citizens as Crime Prevention Ambassadors and assist the NCPC in promoting crime prevention. 200 senior citizens, from the various Senior Citizens’ Clubs, have been appointed for this project.
Crime Prevention Ambassadors are trained to perform simple duties such as sharing of experiences with fellow senior citizens at crime prevention chit chat sessions or children at school talks, help to man crime prevention exhibitions or handling queries at crime prevention talks and exhibitions.
With a spate of phone scams and other forms of cheating cases targeting at the elderly, National Crime Prevention Council and MCYS collaborated the Crime Prevention Ambassador (CPA) scehme in 2002 and the first batch of 28 CPAs was commission in September 2002. Todate, the number has grown to 200.
